The night is being co-ordinated by the school’s Interact Club and SRC in conjunction with the organisation, Comedy for a Cause. This organisation provides a night of comedy with comedians from both Sydney and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals for schools, clubs and charities across Australia.
It is a real honour for Rotary, the Principal and staff of Keira High School to be supporting the school’s two Vice-Captains Elect, Maria Micale and Jarrad Pritchard. The students have been selected to attend the prestigious National Youth Sciences Forum (NYSF) to be held in January 2018. This forum is a 12-day residential program for students entering Year 12 who are passionate about Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths. Maria and Jarrad have been selected to attend two different programs. Maria will be attending the Brisbane forum, while Jarrad will attend the forum held in Canberra.
Selection into the NYSF program is an outstanding honour for Maria and Jarrad as the selection process is highly competitive and requires extensive preparation. The students were required to complete a series of interviews by different panels of Rotarians on various topics relevant to the sciences; their aspirations, their interests and knowledge of Rotary. Both Rotary Clubs are very proud of both students and recognise the support of Keira High’s Interact Co-ordinator, Jessica Kirton.
NYSF is not only very prestigious, it is also quite expensive. The purpose of the Stand-up Comedy night is to raise funds to complement those paid by Rotary, the two students and their families. Funds raised on the night will be for this purpose.
A typical Rotary barbecue will be run by Rotarians from West Wollongong and Wollongong Clubs with cakes and other snacks supplied before and during the intermission at the comedy night.
An open invitation is extended to all who are interested in joining these two amazing young people to enjoy a fun family night at the school, with students, parents, friends, teachers and Rotarians attending. Venue is the Keira High School Hall.
Tickets can be purchased online at http://comedyforacause.net/ for $35 adults and $25 students.
