This year is going to be quite an interesting season if early results are any indication. A slew of records were broken last week. Some of them long standing ones. Albion Park's Chelsea Ezeoke U12G set a new 100m record (13.0sec), held from 1995 by the very talented Haylie Mathieson. Chelsea set a new record in the discus of 34.02m.

Delta Amidzovski U12G set a new long jump record of 4.54m and a new under 14 girls 80m hurdles record of 13.60sec, two years above her age class.
Luke Stewart in the 30-39 men's class set a new shot put record of 12.29m and a weight throw record of 10.48m.
At the recent Albion Park Gala Day, Chelsea broke the U12G 200m record, from 27.91 sec to 27.47 sec, the 400m record from 1.06.16 to 1.03.15, the shot-put and discus records and won gold in the 100m.
Jordan Heywood in the U17B class broke the 1500m record by almost 20 seconds from the old 4.49.95 to the new 4.31.0. Jordan has come back to athletics with a vengeance after having a brief break. It is great to see him back competing in the club . Sister, Micki Heywood U10G won silver in discus.
At the recent NSW Primary Schools Athletics Championships held at SOPAC two of our girls did extremely well. Delta Amidzovski G11 was 4th in the state for high jump 1.45m, 4th in long jump 4.75m. She made the 100m final with 13.36sec and the 200m final with 27.57sec.
Chelsea Ezeoke G11 broke the 100m record in the heats setting a new one at 12.72sec. She broke the 200m record and then again broke her own record in the semi-finals at 25.95sec and came second in shot-put with 13.32m. For the second year in a row this talented young athlete won the auspicious Queen Elizabeth trophy as the most outstanding athlete of the championships.
Well done to both ladies on their enormous efforts at such a high competition level.
James Turner was recently honoured by being nominated by the NSW Institute of Sports Awards as a finalist in this year's NSW Male Athlete of the year award. The presentation will be held at the Institute’s annual dinner on November 16. Other nominees include this years coxless 4 rowing team from the FISA World Rowing Championships, Riley Fitsimmons and Murray Stewarta canoe sprinters, Mat Levy a para swimmer and Nicholas Yallouris a cyclist. James is a well credentialled and capable athlete. We wish him the best at the ceremony.
Well done to our members competing in the last open class Treloar Shield event, many competing as juniors against much older and stronger opposition.
