The cold winds may have deterred some, but bike experts were set up to teach about maintenance, safety, braking techniques, and even how to ride a bike.
The event was held as part of Bike Week and to celebrate 200 years of the humble bicycle.
Kiama also celebrated on the same day with the annual Kiama Classic Family Fun Bike Ride.
Shellharbour will be next with their annual Bike About ride on September 30.
There will be three courses including an 8km short course, suitable for young families and people who haven’t ridden in some time and the 10km long course for energetic cyclists. Cycling enthusiasts can complete both for a total ride of 18km.
The event will begin at 9am, with the ride starting and finishing at Lake Illawarra PCYC on Reddall Parade. The day finishes with a nutritious BBQ and a prize giveaway.
Bike Week provides an opportunity for new cyclists to improve their skills, reinforce road safety and road rules and highlight cycling as a safe and healthy option for short trips.
