Bikeabout is a joint initiative between Shellharbour City Council, the Heart Foundation, Lake Illawarra PCYC, Illawarra BUG, Illawarra Road Safety Group and RMS.
The free community event is held as part of NSW Bike Week and aimed to promote fun and exercise while enjoying the natural environment of Lake Illawarra.
There are three course lengths – an 8km course suitable for young families and the inexperienced, a 10km “long” course for energetic cyclists, or 18km for cyclist enthusiasts who want to do both courses.
Courses start and finish at Lake Illawarra PCYC. Registration and ride starts between 9.30am and 10am.
Come dressed as a superhero or fairy princess for your chance to win great prizes. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy live music.
There will be face painting, sumo suits and more.

Community tours of Civic Centre
Community tours of the new Civic Centre were held at the start of this month, with participants getting an exciting opportunity to get a sneak peek of this contemporary, purpose-built community facility.
Tours focused on the innovative construction methods, sustainability and Green Star rating and community and civic spaces including the civic plaza, library, auditorium, council chambers and customer service area.
The Civic Centre creates a real heart for Shellharbour City, a community “lounge room” where people can meet, learn and enjoy the public spaces.
The Civic Centre will be officially opened at the start of December.
