If ever a brilliant car has been the victim of bad timing, the McLaren F1 was it. In the late 1980s, the world was supercar mad, spurred on mainly by Ferrari's success with its ultra-exey F40 supercar (from 1987) and the extraordinary reaction to the Jaguar XJ220.
