Family participation is a key component of the club and it’s great to see a number of mums and dads taking part. Intending members are reminded they have time to register for the summer, and can do so any Sunday at the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre.
Round 1 contested on Sunday gave athletes the opportunity to meet up with new members, order uniforms and take part in the fund-raising campaign the club has enlarged on for the season. IBS will not compete next Sunday due to the long weekend but will be back on track on Sunday, October 8, with round 2 of competition.
The club will also have a large contingent of athletes travelling to the NSW All Schools that will be held from October 12, right through to October 15, and from performances in Combined High and Associated Schools events, many IBS will be up in the finals of their respective events. The NSW All Schools is one of the largest events on the athletic calendar and brings together athletes from all sections of secondary schools. From past events, the All Schools have unearthed a lot of talent with opportunity for clubs to engage these athletics into our sport.
The winter season was a good one for the club, and no more deserving of a high award is president of the club, Geoff Hynoski. Geoff completed the Big Ten, and his top ten events were highlighted by PBs and top placings. The great initiative of ANSW saw a number of athletes complete the Big Ten but masters athletes dominated the top first athletes to achieve the feat.
Congratulations Geoff on a top effort, challenging himself over distances from 12km, 10km, 8km, 7km, with the shortest distance being his leg in the Street Relays of 4km. He now heads into the summer season looking forward to shorter distances of 800 and 1500m, where he will be joined by his fellow middle distance athletes including Col Clarson who returned to the track last week, and Darrin James.
Athletes are reminded to put their expression of interest in for the coming State relays to be held in November. Once again the club is expected to have a number of teams and officials will be accepting nominations each Sunday. If you cannot attend a club meet please phone the secretary on 4262 8498 to nominate. Teams will be selected from under 14, under 16, under 18, under 20 open and masters men’s and women’s.
Athletes are reminded to be at the track on time each Sunday to start the first event right on 2.30pm. All information concerning the club will be delivered at 2.15pm. The club is aiming to keep to a strong timetable so that all events can be delivered for all ages and to be completed no later than 5pm.
Sunday, October 8, will see the club announce a sponsorship deal that will involve all athletes each week, and will encourage athletes to take advantage of competing each week in a relaxed and friendly environment. Regardless of ability and age, the small sponsorship will be targeting all athletes from under 8 right through to masters men an women.
