An outstanding defensive effort catapulted Shoalhaven to a convincing 24-0 win over Vikings in the Illawarra Rugby third grade grand final on Saturday.

The result at WIN Stadium was never in doubt after Shoalies took a 17-0 lead into half-time. A converted Steven Harrison try in the second period put the icing on the cake for the impressive minor premiers.
Shoalhaven captain/coach Ben Dennis scored one of his team’s three tries, but it was flanker Tim Murphy who was named player of the match.
‘’Tim was really good but so was the rest of the boys,’’ Dennis said.
‘’To keep Vikings scoreless is a tremendous defensive effort on our part.’’
It wasn’t much better for Vikings in the second grade decider against Bowral.
They were 16-0 down in the opening half following three penalty goals to Lachlan Huntington and a converted try to powerhouse No 1 Inoke Kaitabu.
Vikings showed some fight in the second half and crossed for two tries but Bowral also scored three tries during this period to run away with a comfortable 33-10 victory.
Bowral captain Max Jenkins praised his team for making history by becoming the club’s first ever second grade champions.
Fly-half Lachlan Huntington’s game-high 13-points earned him the player of the match award.
