UOW’s Sydney Business School launched the new-look Master of Business Administration course following a ‘’thorough 12-month review’’.
MBA course director Professor Paul Gollan said the ‘street smart’ course was developed around what students need but also what organisations want from future employess.
‘’And that’s a fully engaged MBA which is driven, industry embedded with a practical and global focus,’’ he said.
‘’We’ve tried to redesign the course so that we cater for what industry wants as well as what students need for what industry wants.’’
Prof Gollan said as a result the new program, starting in February 2018, was doing away with conventional learning and introducing new and more relevant ways to give students the tools, understanding and experience they need to succeed.
‘’Instead of getting buried deep into textbooks, students will learn to manage and lead by getting hands-on and solving real-life business problems,’’ he said.
‘’They will connect and learn from some of sharpest and brightest minds in the business world at exclusive events and masterclasses designed to develop skills in a range of business functions like shared value, business resilience, managing human capital and social media.

‘’Our MBA will teach the deep expertise and knowledge need to drive practical productive value for organisations.’’
Students have the option of studying at UOW’s Sydney CBD or Wollongong campuses, with three intakes per year and course schedules to suit working professionals.
‘’We are in the Gateway building at Circular Quay which is probably the financial commercial centre of Australia, if not South East Asia,’’ Prof Gollan said.
‘’This is important because we plan on delivering the MBA in our Dubai campus and other South East Asia locations.
‘’The earliest this can happen is 2019. But imagine the benefits for industry if an MBA student has that global experience and can do a trimester at Sydney, a trimester in Hong Kong, do a trimester in Dubai and do a trimester in Kuala Lumpur.’’
