Cricket Australia has instructed the World Cup squad to express any security concerns it has ahead of the tournament which begins on June 24, and is working closely with the Australian Cricketers' Association and the ICC to ensure the safety of the 15 players, coaches and travelling staff.

The team departs for London on Saturday night, from where it will head to Southampton for a pre-tournament training camp. Australia's first game is against last year's World T20 champions West Indies on June 26 in Taunton.

Eight people including two Australians were killed in a London terror attack last weekend, barely a week after a suicide bombing in Manchester.

Australia's World Cup touring party will have a private security guard with it in the south of England for the duration of the tournament, which includes games in Taunton, Bristol and Leicester before a potential final at Lord's.

All-rounder Ellyse Perry said her side was confident in the security measures being implemented around the team and the tournament by CA and the ICC.

"We've travelled a lot and extensively to different parts of the world. Whenever we travel we've got numerous security procedures in place," Perry said.

"I'm sure CA have put in a number of extra measures that they deem appropriate, as well as the ICC for this tournament. We always feel really safe and well looked after whenever we travel.

"The whole group has the absolute confidence in Cricket Australia. They have a history of being very, very thorough in looking after their players and there's a number of examples where the teams haven't toured when they've deemed it not safe to do so.

"What's been happening is obviously horrendous and our entire squad send their greatest sympathies to the people that are affected, and there's a number of Australians affected as well.

"That's probably the immediate thought, just how horrible it must be for those people."

Australia are chasing a seventh Women's World Cup crown, and are looking to defend the title they won in 2013 in India.

In a new World Cup format, all eight teams will play each other in the pool stage before the top four progress to a knockout semi-final stage.

Perry expected it to be the most open tournament in the competition's history.

"The last four years have been quite different in women's international cricket," Perry said.

"We've had the ICC Women's Championship which has exposed teams to one and other more so than ever before and we've got a real understanding of how each team plays and their styles and their different players and all those things.

"That level of knowledge makes competitions closer and on top of that, the development across the board for all countries has really produced a lot of world-class players.

"I don't think there's an easy game in there for any team. It's quite possible there'll be a number of surprises in terms of upsets.

"It's really about who plays the most consistent cricket across the board and turns it on when it counts as well."
