There have been huge flocks of seabirds working bait schools at Mystery Bay, and these are possibly related to the bonito.

On the beaches, Ron Snape of Tilba reports he and his wife Tralee had a good session on a calm Corunna beach, which had a couple of remnant gutters from rougher conditions were the fish were lying.

“The thing about these condition is not to cast over the fish. They are right on the back of what waves that are there, 20 metres maximum off the shore,” Ron said. “The night before we had the same sort of result at Tilba beach – a good mix of tailor and salmon. The fish didn’t get to go on until just on dark.”

The Baron at Bermi Bait & Tackle reports leatherjackets still touching up most who are reef fishing, while the seals have been giving those at Montague Island a hard time.

Bermagui locals Roosta and Kid went out and got stretched on some monster blue groper. A local charter had a big day on the marlin which is awesome to see so late in the season. While the surf fishing remains very good with some XXL salmon and some very nice tailor around also. Cheers Baron!

Further north, Graham at Tackle World Moruya reports flathead have been caught this week in the Moruya by those targeting some of the more shallow sections of the river.  Above the hospital rocks and also in the backwaters near Preddy’s wharf has produced.

The bream have been a little quiet, but a few have been tempted with pillie cubes in the channel along the rockwall at Preddy’s wharf. Perch are still hitting the surface late at night around the bridge, but remember to release all EPs and bass at the moment.

In the Tuross River, the water is a little dirty after the rain, but the fishing is still good particularly on a run in tide. Some large salmon are moving around the front of the river mouth and they are great fun on light bream and whiting outfits.

Whiting and bream are also being caught down the front. Some good jewfish and flathead have been caught this week in the deep channel out the front of the boatshed on live bait and vibes.

Salmon and bream have been caught off the beach at Bingie on pillies. Coila and Congo beaches both have large gutters that are holding some good salmon also. Off the rocks at Tomakin has been producing squid and blue groper. The breakwall in Moruya is seeing some good salmon and tailor sessions using pillies and gang hook rigs - just remember - pick your tide right .

Meanwhile, Eurobodalla Recreational Fishing Action Group has taken on the push for artificial reefs off the shire. ERFAG has asked for State Member Andrew Constance to fund the artificial reefs from the unexpected additional funds that were secured from the sale of poles and wires and other infrastructure.

ERFAG has researched the available Artificial Reef options within Australia and has concluded that installing two Pelagic Tower Artificial Reefs manufactured by Subcon is the most appropriate design and orientation for inshore recreational fishing for the Eurobodalla. 

The Subcon Pelagic Tower Reef 12.5 meters high (four storeys high), 10 meters long, 7.8 meters wide and weighing an impressive 70 tons. The Pelagic Tower Reefs were specifically designed to not only house demersal fish species but also attract an array of pelagic top-water fish in a similar way to FADs. Narooma Sport and Game Fishing Club – On the June long weekend, Friday and Saturday Jone 9-10, NSGFC will be holding a garage sale inside its clubhouse. Commencing Friday evening at 4pm and re opening 8am Saturday morning,  places are available for anyone who wishes to have a table to sell off anything you they need.

Jill Johnston is organising the weekend sale with only a limited number of tables available. The club needs lots of cheap goodies to be successful so that fishing gear you don’t use, that stuff in the garage you don’t need, bring it all and get it sold. Call Jill on 0407 164 070.

The next club outing is Saturday, June 17 on homeground of Wagonga Inlet. Thoughts are to fish the morning with 8am being low tide. This converts to 10’ish up the back of the inlet around the oyster leases. Meet back at the clubhouse for a 12.30pm lunch supplied by the club.
