KidsFest 2017 features many favourite activities you know and love plus some new ones to excite and engage.
Kicking off on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 14 from 10am, it’s “All Aboard the KidsFest Express” at Illawarra Light Railway Museum, Tongarra Road, Albion Park.

While you are there you can play games, get creative with lots of craft activities including felt puppets and lanterns for the finale parade.
Wollongong University will have some extra cool science and technology activities and Symbio Wildlife Park will bring Zoo2You.
The “Helper Friends” Emergency Services Expo on Tuesday May 16 has become legendary. Held at the Illawarra Rural Fire Service Control Centre, Airport Drive Albion Park Rail, the Expo features hands on experiences with fire, police and ambulance workers and the machinery they use.
Forget the electronic games and get creative with a good old cardboard box at Crew Park, Warilla on Wednesday May 17. Healthy Cities Talk Project and the 2528 Crew will provide the raw materials, all you need to bring is your imagination! It’s the ultimate back to basics activity, your box can be a car, a castle, a train or a tunnel.

If you are a new parent or a family new to Shellharbour City then the Barnardos Communities for Children Picnic on Thursday May 18 at Blackbutt Reserve is a wonderful opportunity to find out more about local services for families, play, sing, listen to stories and get up close to nature. It’s Bangu’s first birthday, so the team from Paint Shellharbour ReAD are planning a special celebration. BYO picnic, rug, hat and suncream.
Feeling sporty but don’t know what you are good at? KidsFest is a perfect opportunity to ‘Come and Try’ for FREE. There’s junior boxing at the PCYC, Rhee Taekwondo, music and dance with Sing a Song and Dance Along, roller skating at Oak Flats, Skills 4 Life, Jishukan and wheelchair basketball with the Roller Hawks.
You can also take a family guided walk at Macquarie Pass National Park or grab a torch and join the Nocturnal Magic Spotlighting Adventure (bookings essential).
The KidsFest Finale at Killalea State Park, starting at noon on Saturday May 20, will wrap up the week with a parade, circus, kite flying, Arts Trail, costume creations, the Scouts climbing wall and much more.
From 4pm-7pm enjoy Dusk Magic with Aboriginal dancing, a traditional smoking ceremony and stories around the campfire.
