What started out as a confusing season for some with free dual registration for Little A athletes has seen an influx of very keen and capable young competitors mixing and learning from experienced older athletes within our ranks.
This has led to the development of a strong team spirit which has been expressed through the growth of new friendships and the barracking for fellow club members at High Level carnivals.
Some National results are:
James Gorham U16 Pole Vault 7th 3.20m
Eleanor Tozer U14 High Jump 10th 1.43m
Karen Clarke Open Javelin 6th 54.26m and 6th Open Discus 41.92m
Tierney Dunne unlucky to miss third by 0.05 sec in the 200m 25.75 sec
Nathan Cowgill U18 javelin with an oh-so-close 5th in javelin 55.54m
Newcomer Jackie Lenartowicz U14 hammer 6th 29.15m
I totally admire this young guy’s efforts. Luke Hunter has picked one of the most gruelling of events, the decathlon, to be his favourite.
Ten events over several days with all the best results added together of the competitors to determine positions. After the dust had settled Luke had been awarded a well earned bronze for his herculean efforts.
James Turner, fresh from having received his male para athlete award by Athletics Australia, blitzed the para ambulant 200m, scoring gold with a 25.01 sec, and then followed that up with an outstanding 400m run, winning gold in 53.35 seconds.
Rosie Tozer. This quiet unassuming under 18 competitor announced how awesome she was this season by winning the high jump in the NSW Little Athletics Carnival.
I have seen Rosie jump on several occasions. To see her jump with such well coached fluidity over the bar is balletic. I think she even surprised herself by winning gold with a massive personal best jump of 1.76m.
Out club is very proud of our athletes’ efforts
Last weekend saw the NSW masters Heavy Weight Pentathlon, 56 pound throw, 100 pound throw and a demonstration event called the weight for distance being held at the Campbelltown track. Two of our masters competed.
