Gregson, the Australian 1500 metres national champion, won his third national title winning the 1500 metres in a time of 3 min. 52.86 secs. at the Australian championships in Sydney.
In a slow paced race where ACT's Jordan Guzman did the early running till the final lap and later tripped, Gregson picked up the pace in the final 100 metres to outrun training partner Matthew Ramsden who clocked 3:53:12.
Gregson's time was slower than his heat time of 3:47.74 the previous day.
"I am in the best form now since the Rio Olympics and injury free which is a good thing and now have to achieve the qualifying time for the worlds," Gregson said after the race.
Ryan is now in Mt. Laguna in California for altitude training before going to the Doha Diamond league meet in May.
