The club will host its annual charity golf day at Calderwood Valley Golf Course on May 15.
The club is calling on male and female golfers from throughout the Illawarra to register for the event.
Funds raised will go to Kids Fund.
Kids Fund is an Illawarra-based charity managed by The Disability Trust that purchases essential aids and equipment for children with special needs and significant disabilities.
This equipment includes walkers, orthotics, communicators, hoists, wheelchairs, and seating systems.
For the child and family, these items can help achieve greater levels of inclusion and independence.
Kids Fund receives no government funding and relies on the community for all donations.
Each year, Kids Fund allocates approximately $100,000 on aids and equipment for children in the Wollongong, Kiama and Shellharbour council areas.
Flynn Gordon, nine, from Russell Vale has been supported by Kids Fund through the purchase of a standing frame, walker, adjustable bedding and a beach wheelchair.
The walker provides Flynn with a level of independence as he is unable to walk unaided.
“I cannot express how grateful we are to Kids Fund and its supporters in the Illawarra,” Mereana, Flynn’s mother said.
“Kids Fund helps families to bridge the gap between government funded equipment and the actual needs of kids with disabilities.
“By providing this additional and much-needed equipment you are allowing our children to reach their physio or occupational therapy goals, assisting them in accessing their community and simply making life a bit easier for families by taking away the financial strain of raising a child with additional needs.”
Figtree Lions Club spokesman Ray Jermyn said a two-man Ambrose event with a shotgun start will take place at Calderwood Golf Course on Monday, May 15 following a full Aussie breakfast, which together with lunch were included in the $50 entry fee.
