Nine teams joined in the fun at MS Australia’s seventh Wollongong 24-hour Megaswim at the University of Wollongong’s University Recreation & Aquatic Centre.
MS Australia and Figtree Lions Club, which have run the event for the past six years set a fundraising target of $40,000 this year.
On Saturday, organising committee co-ordinator Bill Wright from Figtree Lions Club said they had already raised about $27,000. Just over $34,000 had been collected by Sunday afternoon.
Teams of up to 15 members participated by swimming laps in relay over 24 hours and by fundraising.
Each team was required to have a swimmer in the water at all times during the 24-hour event. Money raised will finance special Go for Gold scholarships to help people living with MS.
