The fishermen were out five nautical miles despite what Marine Rescue NSW described as “atrocious conditions” of 4-metre seas and 30-knot winds.
The mayday call received was that a 5.6-metre runabout with three people on board was sinking 5 nautical miles due east of Bermagui.
A Marine Rescue NSW spokesperson said the three were taken on board a passing vessel and brought back to shore.
The NSW Police Force Marine Area Command asked Marine Rescue NSW for assistance about 9:30am.
The crew of Bermagui 30 headed out to sea and towed the now-unmanned runabout back into Bermagui.
A crew member was placed in the boat to stabilise it as sea conditions were rough with 4-metre waves.
Marine Rescue NSW Regional operations manager for the Monaro region, Glenn Sullivan advised boaters to check the weather before heading out.
“Conditions were absolutely atrocious out there,” he said.
He thanked the Marine Rescue Bermagui volunteers for responding quickly to a call for assistance.
They volunteers on the rescue were Steven Angelo, Denise Page, Olivia Ford, Babs Stephens, Caren Parfitt and Volker Aebischer.
