The event is a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Australia, and almost $40,000 has been raised so far.
All the funds will be used for support services in the Illawarra.
John Watkins from Alzheimer’s Australia NSW was pleased with the turnout.
“We are so delighted with the level of support and community spirit shown at today’s Memory Walk & Jog,” Mr Watkins said. “It was fantastic to see almost 1000 people out running and walking in support of people with dementia.” Actress Doris Younane hosted this year’s event in Wollongong. The McLeod’s Daughters and Wrong Girl actress has been involved in the event for a number of years, to honour her mother. ‘’My mother recently passed away from dementia, so I understand the life-changing impact it can have on the entire family.’’
