David Aiken and Chris Alford are legends of harness racing, but until Saturday night, something was missing. They have it now after Lennytheshark scored the toughest of Miracle Mile wins at Menangle.

Alford, a driver with about 100 wins from 6000 for his career, counted on Lennytheshark's determination and toughness sitting outside the leader stablemate Hectorjayjay and defying all challengers in the straight, running a mile of 1.49.2.

This wasn't about time; it was about winning. Lennytheshark had gone so close 12 months earlier when gunned down in the final strides in track record time.

"When you have a horse like him, you can just count on him to give his all," Alford said. "I knew they had to get past me and the way he travelled, they were going to have to be very very good.

"He did all the work, but he wasn't going to stop. They had to beat him and they couldn't get it done this time."

The Miracle Mile field exploded off the gate, running a 24.8 second first quarter, and when Hectorjayjay slacked to a 30.3 second quarter, Alford's confidence grew.

"I knew they went quick off the gate, but I was happy and once they steadied he was the one to beat," Alford said. "It is very hard race to win I have been trying I don't how long. This is the best feeling.

"He got to the front a long way out [in the straight] but he wasn't going to get beaten this time."

The final two quarters of 28.2 and 25.9 gave Aiken the race he had been dreaming of, as Lennytheshark held on by a half head from from InterDominion champion Smolda, which had the soft run on the leaders back with favourite Lazarus another two metres away in third.

"I have been coming to Miracle Miles since Mount Eden won it, and it is the race I have wanted to win," Aiken said. "It was heartbreaking last year when he got beaten.

"It is a dream that I thought might never come true. When Smolda was coming at us I thought oh no not again.

"He is such a good horse. He deserved this and I'm going to enjoy it."

The all conquering Mark Purdon team ran second, third and fourth with Our Waikiki Beach getting home to get fourth.

Purdon had dominated the early part of the night winning three group 1s and supplying the trifecta in the NSW Derby where Vincent beat Ultimate Machete and Motu Meteor.

Partyon continued her perfect career, making it nine in a row in the NSW Oaks.

While Purdon drove Vincent and Partyon, it was a brilliant Natalie Rasmussen drive that won the Ladyship Mile for A Piccadilly Princess.
