With eight events including a two kilometre ocean swim, five kilometre beach run and aquathon, organiser Rob Battocchio said it was great to see a variety of athletes having a go.
Competitors came from as far as Tamworth and Canberra, the youngest was 6, the eldest a 73-year-old from the Blue Mountains, Olympians were running amongst the pack and a leg amputee did well in the ocean swim.
“Bit of a tough day to be swimming in the water,” Mr Battocchio said.
“But we were thrilled to see people in the right spirit.
“Max Stapley, as much as his parents are based locally he represents France in the triathlon youth academy, he’s made his way over for the summer holidays and was great to see his whole family take part.”
Triathletes will no be gearing up for the next big water event, the Australia Day Aquathon, also at Wollongong Harbour.
