The existing store – which is almost empty, with massive markdowns on a mismatched collection of remaining goods – is due to close by December 11.
Wesfarmers-owned franchise Bunnings last month lodged a development application with Shellharbour council, seeking to modify the Masters consent.
Instead of being a classed as a “home improvement centre” Bunnings is seeking to create a “hardware and buildings supplies” store, and also wants to make a series of minor design modifications.
If approved the Albion Park location would add a growing stable of Illawarra Bunnings outlets: a $30 million development is planned at Kembla Grange, and a store is underway at Russell Vale in addition to the three others in the region.
