That’s why Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) will hold its first ever adoption day on the south coast this Saturday.
There will be about 20 greyhounds available for adoption on November 26 at Petbarn Wollongong from 10am to 2pm.
GAP spokesman Kyle Maher said the day offered people a great chance to discover more about greyhounds – or even take one home as a pet.
“For many people, greyhounds can make wonderful pets. They don’t require huge amounts of exercise, tend to be quiet and sleep for big portions of the day,’’ he said.
Mr Maher said despite the government’s change of mind, the need to re-home as many greyhounds as possible remains as important as ever.
“We encourage as many people as possible to come to the adoption day and see what fantastic pets greyhounds can make,’’ he said.
This is the latest adoption day hosted by GAP, which is Greyhound Racing NSW’s re-homing program and whose primary aim is to re-home greyhounds who have been retired or who are unsuitable for racing.
All GAP greyhounds are behaviourally assessed, have been desexed, microchipped and received a medical health check. They have also been lifetime registered with local government as a companion animal.
GAP strives to ensure that each adopter is matched to the greyhound which will suit their lifestyle and home surrounds. GAP also provides comprehensive support to adopters both during and after the adoption process.
