Wollongong councillors voted earlier this month to exhibit an updated draft Plan of Management for the Wollongong Botanic Garden, as well as plans to allow a function centre at the manor house.
The draft plan will provide direction for the future of the historic site, replacing an existing 10 year old document.
Conservation plans for the house and and surrounding gardens are also on display.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said Council previously operated an events function centre from Gleniffer Brae but the use ceased in 2009 following a service review.
“The community no longer sees a distinction between Gleniffer Brae and the Botanic Garden and they should be managed as the significant community and tourist facility they have become,’’ Cr Bradbery said.
He said it was important that plans for community assets are regularly revised and updated to reflect current values.
The council will hold an open day at the garden at November 19 and a public meeting in the council’s administration building on November 22. The draft plan is open for comment until December 9.
