The success of throwers Mary Thomas and June Lowe in the recently held Australian Masters Throws Championships indicate both ladies are well on target for the titles. Both ladies excelled in the Throws titles, held at the Kerryn McCann athletic centre, winning their respective individual throws and backing up to win their throws penthalon.
Blue Stars will have a strong team for the World titles and being on home turf has enabled more of the club’s athletes to make the trip to the west. Sprinter John Van Stappen, making a return to the track, will team up with club mate John Lamb, both men to be competitive in their age brackets.
The women also are strong headed by Thomas and Lowe, but ably supported by sprinter Lynda Douglas and Rina Flynn. At this stage it is not sure if top sprinter Gianna Mogentale will make the trip.
Meanwhile our junior members have been very active at the NSW All Schools held last weekend and some great results were recorded.
Although all results were not in at the time of writing, a brilliant run by Margo Chauvet over the 400 metres to record a PB and run 5th in the final was a great result. Her clubmate Grace Adams also recorded a 5th placing in both 90 and 200 metres hurdles to record a pb also. Under 14 athlete, Emma Matthews on the back of her very good 4th placing in the All Schools penthalon, recorded good runs over the 400 and 200 metres, whilst Mich Horton competing with an injury competed well under the circumstances as did Jye Schumack and Brent Harriman.
It was a pity that star thrower Maree Loiuse Meier missed the tiles due to illness as she would have been a major contender for both shot and discus.
Its is now official: Dubbo will be the scene of the NSW Country titles in 2017. Blue Stars will advise all members very soon of accomodation etc and details but from reports, the facilities are very good. Dubbo has found it hard to form an organising committee to work with ANSW but they now see this as a great opportunity to take these titles to the Dubbo area.
The IBS open meet didn’t live up to expections and the conducting of another meet on the Saturday at Campbelltown also did not help. Regardless, there were some great results with Sydney Pacifics Danelle Delany running a great 200 metres in preparation for her assault on the world masters
Cameron Chilsolm was the star of the male IBS sprinters when he ran a great race over 200 metres to just edge out Lachlan Parry, whist Joshua Park also ran well.
IBS has seen a great influx of dual registrations and are pleased to welcome all these athletes on board, and hope that their pathway to senior athletics is a smooth and rewarding journey.
