Social dancers, kids, beginners and serious contenders in the Australian ballroom dancing competition circuit packed in to the ornate theatre, with top dancers facing off to win the right to represent Australia at the British Open Championships in 2017.
The event also gave participants of all ages the chance to don their finery and compete in ballroom, Latin American and “new vogue” dance styles, allowing local dancers the chance to rub shoulders will the best in the country.
The spectacular has been running in Wollongong for more than 50 years, making it one of the longest-running Australian ballroom dancing competitions.
“It is important that we continue this tradition of bringing the event to the region, giving our local dancers a chance to test their skills against the best in the country,’’ event organiser Donna Shingler said. A record of almost 200 dancers took part on September 25.
