The distinctive film program by vanguard directors at the forefront of Latin American cinema will screen at Gala Cinema in Warrawong from September 9 to 11.
SALCO (Spanish And Latin American Community Organisation) spokeswoman Carmen Reed invited lovers of Latin American culture to check out one or all of the free movies.
‘’Share in our unique stories as you explore humour, drama and action through a contemporary Latin American lens,’’ she said.
Films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela and Guatemala will be shown during the popular festival.
In ‘’Asleep in the sun’’ (Dormir al Sol) a man commits his troubled wife to a mental hospital but notices some bizarre changes in her behaviour after her release. The film is based on the homonymous novel by the Argentine master Adolfo Bioy Casares.
Another anticipated film is ‘’Family Holidays’’ (Vacaciones en Familia), which is about the Kelly family who like to show off and pretend to be wealthy.
With no money for vacations, they tell their friends they are going on a family trip to Brazil, while in reality they hide in their house for a month, just for everyone to believe they are truly enjoying summer abroad.
Hosted by SALCO, the Illawarra Spanish and Latin American Festival is also supported by the Latin American Embassies in Canberra.
