In recent weeks members have been feverishly preparing their colourful range of native orchids to show and sell at their annual spring show.
Native orchids of all shapes, sizes and colours will be displayed on September 10-11.
The free show runs from 9am to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday at the Old Courthouse in Cliff Road, Wollongong.
Illawarra Native Orchid Society secretary Bruce Porter said there will be a large display of flowering native orchids as well as a sales area with native orchids and other interesting plants, including succulents, bromeliads and carnivorous pitcher plants.
‘’The sales area will have orchids from seedling size to flowering size, as well as pots and books,’’ Mr Porter said.
‘’Members are available to answer questions and there are free printed growing instructions.’’
The society will also offer its popular repotting service, enabling the public to bring in their overgrown and neglected orchids to be divided and spruced up by experts for a nominal fee, covering potting mix and pots.
‘’This year there is also the option to win a flowering orchid in our popular voting competition,’’ Mr Porter said.
‘’This is open to all visitors to the show and gives them the chance to see how they would perform as an orchid judge.’’
