I am a huge fan of smoothies for breakfast on my “crazy days”, of which I seem to be having a lot of in recent times. Smoothies provide an opportunity to add some vegies into your breakfast and are super easy to digest on the run as you don't need to worry about taking the time to chew, chew, chew 100 times. It is also a great way to get the kids having more of their vegies to kick off the day, and provides them with loads of sustainable energy for the morning ahead.

To save time in the morning, I usually chop up the fruit and vegies and pop them in a little tub the night before so I can just whack it all in the blender in the morning, blitz and go.
I used almond milk in my smoothies, but you can substitute with your choice of milk (coconut, oat, rice, dairy) as all work well, and don't forget to add the heart healthy avocados for a deliciously creamy texture. If you haven’t tried avocados in smoothies, you absolutely must!
Not only does this smoothie have great texture, but it has quite the nutritional punch thanks to potassium-packed bananas and avocado. There’s also a decent amount of omega 3s from chia seeds and filling fibre from apples.
I call it the green goddess smoothie because after drinking you can't help but feel wonderful, satisfied and refreshed.
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, or milk of your choice
1 organic apple, peeled and chopped*
1 medium frozen banana
1 1/2 cups fresh spinach leaves
1 tablespoon chia seeds or ground flaxseed
1/2 medium avocado
1 scoop of quality protein powder (optional)
Method
In a large high-powered blender, add in all ingredients and blend on high for 1-2 minutes or until all ingredients are well combined. If necessary, add in more almond milk to thin the smoothie. Makes 2 smaller sized smoothies.
Note
*I recommend using a sweeter apple such as Pink Lady or Gala. If you prefer a less sweet smoothie, use a green apple.
