The year 8 student also goes out of her way to highlight and educate fellow students about a number of issues, especially domestic violence. Her proactive approach has been recognised, with Zara awarded a Youth Frontiers Award in the Empowering Young Women category during a ceremony at Parliament House.
Shellharbour MP Anna Watson said Zara was a worthy winner, adding that the youngster created a poster and held a presentation to educate students on domestic violence.
“She also arranged for a guest speaker to present to Dapto High School to raise awareness on the issue of domestic violence,’’ Ms Watson said. “I’m so proud to see that Zara Brown’s efforts and community spirit have been recognised. It’s also great to see Dapto High School – one of the largest schools in my electorate – encourage its students to focus on such important community issues.’’
