The Illawarra-based Sydney Sixers Girls Cricket League commences on Sunday February 7, and includes girls from as far north as Helensburgh and south to Shoalhaven and the Southern Highlands.

 The Cricket NSW competition is building on the huge success of the inaugural Women’s BBL Twenty 20 Big Bash, with other regional comps across the state.

 The Sunday morning T20 initiative will have an under 13s comp for girls aged 9-13 years and a under 17s for 14-17 year-olds, with everybody welcome. Both T20 comps have a   9.30am start.

 No cricket experience is required with the emphasis on fun, participation and developing skills.

“Girls will have the chance to have some fun and play exciting cricket for a few hours on a Sunday morning in the style of the Women’s BBL Twenty 20 Big Bash,” Cricket NSW Development Manager for the Illawarra, Paul Brockley said.

“The new league will involve girls playing Twenty 20 matches on Sunday mornings and we hope that we can get as many young cricketers involved as possible.”

Meanwhile aspiring female juniors had a great time at the  Sydney Sixers Girls holiday camp at Figtree Oval.

Illawarra junior and Sydney Thunder star Stefanie Daffara and Sydney Sixer’s Jodie Hicks were a hit with the girls as they passed on their skills developed in the  inaugural Rebel WBBL Twenty 20 League.

“Everyone had a great time and the girls got a unique opportunity to learn from the best,” Brockley said.
