The Illawarra's older drivers will again use a NRMA mobility forum to push their case to make public transport more accessible.
Four years ago, this issue was highlighted when the NRMA last held a mobility forum for older members.
This ongoing concern and the need for more funding for community transport is again set to top the agenda when the NRMA hosts a Fit to Drive forum in Wollongong next week.
The 16 per cent of Illawarra drivers aged over 65 are encouraged to attend the September 17 event and highlight measures they want the NRMA to campaign for on their behalf.
NRMA local director Marisa Mastroianni said older drivers can use the forum to raise concerns about mobility, transport and licensing laws.
"No other organisation is better qualified to fight to improve the mobility for older Australians like the NRMA and our ability to achieve this is greatly enhanced when our members get directly involved," Ms Mastroianni said.
"The overwhelming response received in 2011 is why we are encouraging all members to register and join in this important discussion. By sharing your mobility concerns with the NRMA we will be better armed to deliver positive outcomes."
She will chair the forum whose discussion panel will include Lucia Scioscia from Wollongong City Council, Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery, Roads and Maritime Services representative Adam Berry and Regional Development Australia Illawarra CEO Natalie Burroughs.
The forum will take place at Illawarra Leagues Club on September 17 from 10am to noon. Email fittodrive@mynrma.com.au or call 1300 728 75 to register.
